Oak Mountain

Last week Jeremy and I both had a day off together and decided we should take the dogs for a hike @ Oak Mountain. We loaded up Gretchen and headed off to the State Park. We wanted to hike to Peavine Falls. So we set out from the Peavine parking lot assuming the path would take us to the falls. Now the map said it was about 1.9 miles to the falls, so we figure 3o minutes we should be there. We hiked about 15 minutes until we came to a cross roads...the blue and white paths. We elected to stay on the white path. After 30 minutes of hiking Izzy heads for the creek and catches her second wind. Hatfield (not such an aqua phenom) refuses to go near the water for fear of a bath. We still hear no waterfall and realize there must be multiple paths and turn back.

On the way back to the car, Hatfield finally relents and gets in the creek because he can barely breathe from exhaustion and lack of water. So we walked a while in the creek bed with Izzy eating water as she walked. By the end, Izzy and I almost jogged out of the woods, but Hats and Jeremy didn't fare so well...maybe we should have started off with a shorter hike...(we did hike almost 6 miles). Wish I had a pic of Hatfield with heat exhaustion, it looked like he and Hols went for a run.
